An atypical crime novel: the detective is a young African American man with no formal education but shrewd and very street-smart, who moves between the poverty and the luxury of Los Angeles. The case is not a crime already committed, but a suspected murder-for-hire in the making. Very funny dialogue, entertaining and quick to read, though without much mystery. 100% sure they’ll turn it into a movie.
